Trees and Shrubs of Kern County (Jan 2013)

Euonymus occidentalis Nuttall ex Torrey 1857.  Burning bush. A slender stemmed native shrub with thin opposite leaves and arillate seeds exposed on opening of the capsule.  Possibly in Kern County. Known primarily from the North and Central Coast Ranges, Klamath Region, northern Sierra Nevada, and Peninsular Ranges. Generally shady wet ravines in forests and oak woodlands.
